Camp Quality: DIY 4 KIDS

In January 2004, Roche Products partnered with Camp Quality to help children with cancer. Two hundred and forty Roche employees from across the country descended on a dilapidated house in Melbourne for a spectacular one day renovation rescue.
Camp Quality is a non-profit organisation that is committed to bringing hope and happiness to every child living with cancer, their families and communities through ongoing quality recreational and educational programs. Nationally there will be approximately 125 Camp Quality camps held in Australia in 2005, reaching more than 5000 families.
The tired three-bedroom house in Melton South, which was bequeathed by a Camp Quality supporter on his death, was too far from the city to be used as accommodation for families of children in hospital. Thus it was decided to sell the house and use the money towards running Camp Quality programmes.
The house needed major renovations, and while the structural work was done by local tradesmen and businesses who offered their services, Roche volunteers spent one day painting, decorating, gardening, building furniture and making artwork to help ensure the house raised the best possible price at auction.
Not only was the house successfully sold at auction for $173,000, but the day was also great fun and generated significant media attention for Camp Quality.
